Build your Mt. Fuji day

Eighteen stops around the Fuji Five Lakes. Tick the ones you want and we'll put them in a sensible order, count the driving, work out where lunch falls and tell you whether the day actually fits. They are grouped by energy rather than by age, because two five-year-olds can be completely different animals, and the real age and height limits are in brackets.

Nothing here commits you to anything. It is a way to see the shape of a day before you ask for it. If you would rather we chose, the two days we suggest need no work at all.

Tick what you want and we'll put the stops in a sensible order and count the driving. The time bar follows you down the list, so you can watch the day fill up as you tick.

Looking around

9 stops

Lakes and viewpoints, plus a few indoor ones for weather. Stroller-friendly, no age limits, and nothing here will wreck a nap schedule.

  • 15 mins Free

Flower beds, a flat lake path and the classic Fuji-across-the-water view

  • 30 mins, or 1.5 hrs with the climb Free

Deepest and clearest of the five, and the furthest west. The shoreline view is a walk from the car; the famous old 1,000 yen note angle is a 30-min climb up Nakanokura Pass if anyone fancies it

  • Approx. 40 mins Free

The quietest of the lakes, plus AIM Brew LAB. for takeaway craft beer

  • Approx. 45-60 mins Free

Mirror-still water and the reflected Fuji, on the smallest of the five lakes

  • 45 mins Free

Life-sized Tyrannosaurus and a glowing Mt. Fuji model

  • 1 hr Ticketed

Three-minute ride to the summit deck and Rabbit Shrine

  • 1 hr Ticketed

Spring-fed fish park at Oshino, fully indoor

  • 1 hr Ticketed

Running about

6 stops

Climbing, sledging, animals to meet. Nothing frightening, but they will sleep in the car on the way home.

  • 45 mins Free

Climbing ropes, slide, sandbox, forest boardwalk

  • 1-2 hrs Free entry

Storybook-themed square with a mirror maze, free to walk around

  • Half day, or approx. 2 hrs Ticketed

Twelve gentle rides and character meets in its own section of the park

  • Approx. 3 hrs Ticketed

Card-collecting forest maze, firewood splitting and marshmallows over a fire, off-road buggies, treetop net course. Gentler of the two, and the one that suits a mixed-age group

  • Approx. 3 hrs Ticketed

A working dairy farm on the Asagiri plateau, with Fuji straight ahead across the grass rather than over a car park. Goats to walk, calves to feed, butter and ice cream to make, and a long slide down the hillside. Forty minutes south of the lakes, so it takes most of the day

  • Approx. 3 hrs Ticketed, winter only

The children's area at the Fujiten ski field, twenty minutes from the lakes. A sledging slope with a moving walkway, so nobody has to carry a sledge back up, plus a snow-play zone with slides. Nappy changing, children's toilets and a warm room indoors. No skiing needed, and no skiing experience either

Heights and speed

3 stops

Up in the trees or on the coasters. Real age and height limits apply, listed on each one, and an adult usually has to go too.

  • 1 hr Ticketed

Seven low-level activities in the trees, adult supervises from the ground, up to four children per adult

  • 2 hrs Ticketed

Ziplines, rope ladders and treetop crossings up in the canopy. Under 12s need an accompanying adult

  • Full day Ticketed

Some of Japan's steepest coasters, for teens and confident older kids

Admissions are yours to pay and are not in the tour price: about ¥700 to ¥1,200 a head at Makaino Farm and Fujiten. Forest Adventure needs booking ahead. Makaino closes on irregular days, and Fujiten runs only from about mid-December to early April, so we check your date before confirming. Checked for the 2025-26 season.

A starting point, not a timetable. Swap stops, linger, or cut one short on the day. Lunch always falls between 12:00 and 13:30.

Timings are our planning estimates, not official figures, and depend on your group. Age and height limits are the venues' own.
